Samsung UN55B6000 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV Review by Customer

"Amazing TV", 2010-06-18 By D. Shtarker (NY USA)

We got the Samsung UN55B6000 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV on March from Amazon and couldn't have been happier with this purchase! We had a 32" Sony LCD (which we got in early 2008) but it was just too small for our living room.
This TV however fits perfectly. The picture is crisp and clear whether or not we are watching an HD channel.
Definitely a great purchase and worth the extra few hundred dollars to get the LED over the LCD.

"Fantastic TV with superb picture quality", 2010-06-06 By Glenseat

I was hesitant to buy a LED tv because of the price. But after comparing the bulky looking LCD and plasma, this is much lighter to handle and beautiful to look at and worth the additional cost. I read a lot of reviews on Amazon.com for this product before I bought this TV. A lot of people mentioned something about having problems with images at the corners. I have had the TV for 3 months and have not noticed anything similar to that. The image quality is excellent and the colors are beautiful (specially in the Dynamic setting, the colors are so bright and clear that my eyes start hurting after few minutes of watching. My setting is usually at Standard for watching regular TV programs and 'movie' while watching movies.) I didn't have to make any changes to the TV setting after I removed it from the box. Very easy to setup and has a lot of good features. Have connected my desktop and use it as a PC. So I have not used the infolink features yet. But movies from youtube and other websites are excellent. Very satisfied with the TV. Excellent purchase from Amazon.com with better pricing compared to other retailers.

"It plays Divx video files from a USB stick", 2010-05-31 By Andrew Mountain (Vancouver, BC Canada)

I just discovered this thing plays Divx files from a USB stick (see page 53 of the instructions for a full list of supported video codecs). It plays them full screen and the quality is very impressive considering the video files I was playing were only 640 x 480. Somehow this TV is able to scale by a factor of 3 and still maintain a crisp image.

"Terrif!", 2010-07-20 By R. McKnerney (South Windsor,Ct)

This TV exceeded my expectations from the moment we unpacked it! Amazon's free shipping, the prompt delivery, the easy set up all were pluses.

Samsung UN40B6000 40-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LED HDTV Review by Customer

"Looks amazing, even when it's off!", 2010-04-03 By Rodney Eddi (West Paterson, NJ)

I purchased this set from [...] for $899.00 (after $300 coupon) and received it last week. First of all, it's a pleasure to just look at this set on the stand. It looks stunning. Turn it on, and it will blow you away. Setup was quick (maybe 10 minutes tops, including installation of the base). I am using Amazon HDMI cables ($6). Picture quality is superb. Cable channels look amazing. Even cable news channels look like a piece of art! Pop a blue-ray disk, and the clarity of picture will blow you away. The TV is extremely thin. Sound quality is pretty good (I don't agree with previous reviewers). Samsung menu system is pretty organized and easy to use. I haven't tried the network option, so I can't comment on that.
The superior quality of the picture takes some toll on movies. Most movies lose their "movie look". It is like watching a show on broadway. I guess this is the problem with HD. You can adjust the mode and play with the settings to somewhat decrease this effect, but it will take time to get used to it.
there are multiple options for changing the settings. You can change picture mode, color warmth, darkness, black level, and many more settings.
Overall, this is a technological masterpiece at a bargain price. If you are looking for a TV with superior quality and technology without breaking the bank, get this one. You won't regret it.
******************************************************************
UPDATE (April 13, 2010): I did some research on movies losing their "movie-look" and looking like soap-opera. This is mostly related to 120 Hz effect. If you turn off this option, movies look more natural.

"just the facts", 2010-03-16 By Chris Ward

just wanted to commment on my new purchase of the the un40b6000. I have been holding off for several years before taking the high definition plunge. I decided on purchasing the samsung edge lit led tv versus just the lcd version. I have to say for the most part I have been very impressed with the picture. right out of the box the tv was easy to setup and not that confusing on the menu options. Everything was pretty straight forward. HDMI cables are so much easier than having to mess with with all of the component and fiberoptic cables. Just plug and play. The picture quality is great and like many other comments have stated it might be to good. I have noticed especially on blue ray movies that the shows have lost their movie look. The picture is so clear that the movie looks like it is being performed on a stage. It is hard to describe in words seeing is truly believing. The only problems that I have run into with this tv is when I hooked up a samsung blueray player. It seems that there is a default program called samsung anynet+. If you dont disable the program from the blueray player it locks up the blueray player. Easy fix if you know the solution. Anyways if you are on the fence with a tv purchase this is a good product. If you can wait on purchasing like any electronics everything will get better and cheaper. The only advice I can give you is that get ready for some extra expenses. HDMI cables are not cheap. However the cheapest cables work just as good as the most expensive. If you are an existing customer with dishnetwork you can negogitate the service fee for having your hd service turned on. Go aheah and get a blueray player with the tv. Even the standard dvds look awesome on it. good luck and hope this review helps.

Key Features

  • 1080p HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels)
  • PixelPure 5G 14-bit internal digital video processor increases gradation levels (4,096 levels, or 16x that of a standard 8-bit processor) to create smoother, clearer images.
  • ClearFrame 120Hz screen refresh rate virtually eliminates motion blur, making this HDTV a great choice for fast action movies and sports. Toshiba's ClearFrame 120Hz system doubles the frame rate of an LCD TV from 60 frames per second to 120 frames per second using superior Motion Vector Frame Interpolation technology.
  • Resolution+ super resolution technology upconverts and enhances 480i/p and 720p input signals for a more detailed picture.
  • CrystalCoat prevents ambient room light reflections from washing out the television picture, creating up to 30 percent better contrast in bright rooms and allowing you to enjoy a deep, high contrast picture in all lighting conditions.
  • AutoView helps ensure an ideal image at all times for the day by combining an ambient room light sensor with incoming video content monitoring. AutoView automatically sets most of the TV picture parameters for you.
  • DynaLight Backlight Control utilizes advanced image processing to monitor the brightness of each video frame, and adjust the backlight intensity accordingly. This precision creates seamless transitions with deep blacks for increased detail and depth analysis.
  • Photo Frame capability allows this HDTV to act as both a TV and a digital photo frame. You can showcase your favorite memories as a clear, crisp slide show on the high-resolution television screen--all controlled with just the TV remote.
  • Gaming Mode takes the gaming experience to a new level by reducing game control delay, thus giving the player improved reaction time and a more realistic playing experience. This is great when used with popular gaming consoles, or with PC games using the TVs PC Input.
  • Built-in ATSC/NTSC/QAM digital tuning allows for tuning of standard cable channels as well as off-air digital broadcasts, in addition to digital "cable-in-the-clear" broadcasts.
  • Native Mode restores the size of the picture by the 3-5 percent that is generally lost during the normal over-scanning that occurs on traditional sets.
  • Cinema Mode 24 fps (3:2 Pulldown): This HDTV performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture.
  • Color Temperature Control enables you to adjust white balance to achieve the best television picture possible in any viewing environment, or simply adjust the picture to suit your personal tastes. The "Warm" setting delivers a redder image that is ideal for display in a dimly lit room, while "Medium" and "Cool" provide a progressively bluer image for the best picture as room light levels are increased.
  • Three TheaterWide modes are ideal for displaying HDTV signals as well as enhanced for widescreen television DVDs.

"Great LED TV at a great price", 2010-07-10 By John Viera (Miami, Florida)

This TV has an amazing picture. Great deep blacks and vibrant colors. You must have a good clean HD signal to fully appreciate this TV. I have an RCA amplified HD antenna (rabbit ears) and the World Cup 2010 games are superb. I leave the settings on SPORTS mode and play with the brightness and color settings depending on the content. The NET TV feature is nice. It requires an internet connection through WIFI (wireless) or ethernet (wire). VUDU is great for instantly renting movies and the quality is excellent. The other content needs better programming in the future.

PROS: Great dynamic picture, Low power consumption (1.3 AMPS), Aesthetically pleasing beautiful design, only 2 inches thick, great menus, good remote control unit, low price.

CONS: NO ANALOG AUDIO OUTPUT JACK.

"Nice monitor for my MacBook", 2010-06-28 By lexuz (Vineland, NJ, USA)

This is our first LCD TV. I was not playing a lot with it, but after hooking it up to our MacBook Pro 17" (via mini-display to HDMI adapter and HMDI cable) I was blown away with the quality of picture. Then we've watched the movie played from MacBook to this TV and the picture was very good, sharp and clear and rich in colors. What I also found out is that the view angle is pretty good. While my family was sitting on the sofa in front of TV, I was watching from the side and didn't find any differences in color.
There are a lot of different picture settings, so you can adjust all of them to your personal preferences. If you make them wrong, you can easily reset them to manufacture settings.
Also, I've tried to play games from MacBook on this large screen and wasted in the game for about 5 hours, because the picture quality was very good and screen refresh rate is not visible at all.

With that said, I just want to conclude that I am satisfied with our new LCD LED TV.

"Great TV, but lacks two basic features", 2010-08-20 By Tom Brusky (Milwaukee, WI)

I bought this TV because I wanted two things: a good-quality picture, and the ability to play game consoles without any noticeable lag. This TV does both very well. It has stunning picture quality, and the game mode handles my old 480i XBox console, connected via component inputs, with no noticeable lag.

On the downside picture-wise, I am not 100% satisfied with how the TV reproduces mostly-dark levels. Black is plenty black, but dark gray, dark blue, dark brown, etc. also get "sucked" into black. The average person probably wouldn't be bothered by this, but it can be a little annoying to the discerning eye. Adjusting contrast and brightness helps, but only at the expense of lightening the deep blacks. If you love sharp contrast between dark and light, you'll love this TV. If you're picky and want to see, for example, details in shadows, give this TV a test-run before buying it.

I was quite surprised to see that this TV lacks two of the most basic functions of a TV: it has no clock, and the remote has no program guide button. Obviously, this TV is intended for people who have satellite/cable since those services have programming guides. But over-the-air digital TV also broadcasts program information, and there's no way to access that information on this TV. So if you watch over-the-air TV, you'll still need to have a clock and a TV Guide nearby.

Despite these drawbacks, I'm giving this TV 4 stars because of the excellent picture quality overall, and how well it handles my antiquated game console.

"Great Picture", 2010-07-21 By Cat (USA)

After looking at several LED LCD televisions both online and in person, my husband and I finally decided on the Sharp Aquos LC40LE700UN. Now that we've owned it for a couple of months, I can see we made the right choice. The picture quality is excellent. Much better than the Sony Bravia. If you are looking for an outstanding LED TV at a great price, look no further.

"Good Choice", 2010-08-19 By Elroy Jetson (USA)

The TV was very easy to set up. Laying it face down on a side by side pair of couch cushions (thus elevating it above the floor) made attaching the pedestal super easy. Lifting it onto the stand was easy too, it's a heck of a lot lighter than the behemoth tube TV it replaced.

Once all connections were made and the unit was powered up, it immediately detected the wired internet connection and requested permission to download a software update. And another update. And another update. And another update. I think there were four. I use an outdoor antenna instead of cable, the tuner pulls in all the channels my converter box did, and then some. If there is a broadcast signal strength indicator, I haven't found it. A broadcast signal strength indicator is very important for aiming your antenna. Digital signals don't fade if you turn the the antenna the wrong way, the picture simply disappears. I'll be keeping the converter box around for antenna alignment purposes. There is a bit of a delay when changing channels - I suppose it takes a moment to lock in and start decoding the new channel. My old decoder box had a similar delay when changing channels.

The remote's fairly intuitive, and even has light-up buttons (they time out in about five seconds). The "Netcast" and Wigets" buttons are too close to the up and down on the four way rocker button that's used for navigating setup, Netcast, and Widgets menus - care must be taken when tweaking settings, or you find yourself kicked out of your menu unexpectedly. I already had a Netflix account, so all I had to do was click on Netflix, get the TV's code number, log into Netflix with my computer, and enter the code there. My Netflix cue was up on the TV within thirty seconds.

The picture looks really good. I only have one analog broadcast channel, and that one even looks fairly good. The digital broadcast channels look great in SD, and the HD channels look fantastic! Netfilx movies play beautifully. I tried out a preview on VUDU in full 1080, and it was as smooth as silk! My living room gets lots of sunlight, but the TV shows up clearly. At night, during dark scenes, there is a tiny hint of a light glow on the lower right edge, but it is very, very minor (I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all if I hadn't learned of the phenomenon from other reviews).

Aside from the aforementioned lack of a broadcast signal strength indicator, I'm very pleased with my LG 42LE5400. So far.

"Nothing tops this TV", 2010-08-01 By Allen J. Levinsky (Palm Beach, FL USA)

When it came down to shopping for a new TV, I compared several models from several manufacturers, including, Sams**g, S*ny, Pana***ic, Tos**ba, etc..... and from reading all of the reviews, this model had excellent reviews from top to bottom. And boy were they right. After calibrating the TV, which takes just a few minutes using the LG wizard, I saw the most incredible looking High Definition that I have ever seen. And that was just using my Comcast cable box. Then I popped in my Avatar Blu-ray and I was BLOWN AWAY!!!! I've never seen a picture more perfect in my life. No motion blur, no microblocking, absolutely nothing flawed whatsoever, even while watching fast actioned sports. The TV's speakers work pretty good for such a thin set. Even the streaming video from Netflx is awesome. I haven't tried any of the other optional internet based addons. If you're looking for a stunning picture that will not break the bank, I highly recommend getting this TV. 1080p, 120hz, what more could you ask for around $900?
